Yes, I do think that the celibacy has something to do with it. It may come from that they themselves were molested via priests too though.
The turn a blind eye that the catholic church has done is sick and the institution as a whole needs to be held accountable.

This is a somewhat difficult question to answer for a few reasons. First, the number of priests who have been accused of this behavior are relatively few in comparison to the total number of priests, though it has become popular to make a broad generalization against priest because of the acts of a few. So, I would be hesitant to classify this as an epidemic, which seems to the popular conception.
Secondly, the reasons for sexual deviance vary. There are those who molest children that are not forced to be celibate, yet do it anyway. The priest situation tends to stick out to us, I think, because the idea of celibacy seems strange to many in our culture. If it is different or strange or we can't seem to justify in our minds, it must be wrong. And if it is wrong, it must lead to bad things, like molesting little children. I am not thoroughly convinced that not having sex leads to someone desiring sex with children. I believe that there may be a mental or behavioral issue present in the person who becomes a priest and they act on those feelings, but I hesitant to believe that something like that would develop in a person due to celibacy. Also, the priest situation carries with it a different set of expectations than in others. It is not only the molestation, but the apparent abuse of trust and power that shock us.

If you haven't noticed, let me call your attention to the fact that the Catholic church is having a priest shortage since it is fashionable to be "gay". Back in the day, like before gays were allowed to be outed, any boy that didn't care for girls were sent to the priesthood. It is a fact and anyone who has a priest in their family, and I have, knows of this. The cover up of what goes on behind the closed church doors is due to the Vatican's ruling hand of "shuffling" certain priests from one parish to the next, to the next and then the next. This policy was exposed in a horrendous death of two boys by the hands of a priest in a nearby town where I live. During the court testimony, it was disclosed that this certain priest had molested boys for over 20 years and was transferred out of 32 parishes over that period of time---and the church refused to come clean and state that the knew what he was doing---- what priest do you know gets transferred more often then the people riding the buses to church?

I don't think that it has anything to do with being a Preist. Pedophiles look for jobs/careers that will allow them to be alone and trusted with children. The life of a priest is actually quite ideal for a pedophile because they don't have to explain why they are adult and single and not interested in the opposite sex (or the same sex for that matter). And if you already don't care about religion, going through the motions of the preisthood and pretending to care about the God you have promised to obey are easy to do- its not like anyone is going to know what you are thinking.
On the flip side, there is little doubt in my mind that some of these guys became preists because they knew they were attracted to children and joined the preisthood as a way to suppress their feelings. Like someone who is gay that denies his homosexuality and gets married to a woman because they are trying to do what they believe is the "right thing" in God's eyes.
And just for your FYI pedophiles are NOT homosexuals. Pedophiles choose CHILDREN. They go for little boys more because boys don't tell as often as girls do. In the preist cases, boys are also more accessible. .

No. There are child molestors who aren't celibate who do that anyway. I think a part of it might be the sexual oppression but there has to be the desire there to begin with.
I think they become a priest to molest actually. Most predators are smart enough to put themselves in a position of power and trust so they can do such a thing. I like to think God has a extra special place in hell for those monsters. They're sick & sad and don't deserve the air they breathe.

Celibacy in the Catholic clergy was not a divine edict, but rather was imposed within the past 1000 years within Catholic clergy so priestd and nuns would not produce offspring (who would then inherit the clergyman's proprety). That is why the clergy were told not to have sex- so they wouldn't have heirs, and thus so the church would get their property. Deny a human being sexual expression, and you will warp them- pedophilia is a henious evil, and perhaps, if priest and nuns would be allowed adult relationships, they would not victimize children...

I believe that they are paedophiles hiding behind their authority. The reason they get into the priest hood is so that they can have access to the little alter boys. And they know that they will also be protected by the Church.
It's a perfect scenario for paedophiles. They are the scum of the earth and the Lord will deal with them harshly.
Mat 18:6 But if anyone causes one of these little ones WHO believe in my to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

No, it's because they have to APPEAR to be celibate. Also, if you will note, there is a disproportionate number of little boys molested rather than little girls, which is not what you would expect from the general population. Homosexuality is the "dirty secret" of the celibate clergy, and always has been.
People who make promises do not always keep them perfectly. Married people know that, so why is it so surprising with the supposedly celibate clergy? To me, the fault lies in expecting men to go against Mother Nature all their lives.
