Maybe this has been asked before but, I was just reading a few questions in another section and it got me to thinkin'. Why is homosexuality so condemed by some religions? Homosexuality is mentioned only a few times in the bible but you wouldn't know it by the way some people go on & on about it. I don't understand the intensity that some have over the issue. Isn't a sin a sin? If that's the case, why aren't adulters who have same sex affairs treated as badly? Why are child molester (who don't change...ever!) embraced by the church if they just say they're sorry? Even murderers are looked upon as ok as long as they say they're "saved". Is someone who sleeps with the same sex but leads a good life really that bad? Is God that black & white?

Personally, I don't think so. I'd just love to hear some opinions as to why people who commit adultery or murder aren't condemed like homosexuals are. I think it's a double standard and I'd like to hear why some people do this. Keep it clean kids!

I agree with you about people who make this the "ultimate" sin but in reality its no worse than any other as you state above. My belief is that people need to feel superior to others. Have you ever said to yourself while watching reality shows like Jerry Springer or Wifeswap " I maybe silly but at least I m not as bad as that poor slob. We pick people apart in every area of life for example race, religion, education, social status, cleanliness, and yes sexual orientation. Unfortunate but true. The Good News is God loves us imperfect creatures anyway!

To answer the question, it is pretty simple-prejudice. You expressed it in your question concerning child molesters. One aspect of this is that a child molester is not condemned Biblical. Only the true pedophile never changes. They are usually the ones with an antisocial personality disorder. The others can and do. Check the recidivism rates posted by the government and you can actually see this in action. Only about 6% ever truly re offend in my state, nationally it is about 25%. The same is true about adultery, murder and so forth, change is possible and does occur. That is why the Church and several religions don't condemn the people that committed these actions, but accept them if they repent or work toward changing the attitudes and behaviors that led to the actions. The difference is that homosexuality is first anti-reproductive, second doesn't have the repentance aspect and third is seen as a viable lifestyle. Many associate the person with the action and that is the basic factor there. People have yet to see that a person is separate from their actions or past and that they have the capacity to change and grow. I don't condemn homosexuality, some choose that way of being. It is between them and whatever Deity that they choose to worship.

That whole thing was started by men who are scared to death they may be gay, too. Religion is losing its credibility more every day, and they need a new enemy every so often. They can't legally go after people of other races anymore, and atheists are fighting back too much. Gay people are often marginalized anyway, so they're "IT." They also have the convenience of an obscure and easily misinterpreted scripture as a justification: "God says it's wrong!" Homophobia is nothing new; it's rarely been as institutionalized and government-supported.

loving someone is not a sin... thats correct... its when you have sex with them that it becomes a sin... even heterosexual premarital sex is a sin. But homosexuality isn't just a sin like telling a lie... its more of a lifestyle choice, and its contrary to things in the bible, as are many other lifestyle choices, but this one is the easiest one to persecute without judging ones own lifestyle...

The problem isn't with God, it's with people. Sin is sin. Jesus came to sinners. He ate with them. They were his friends. He didn't condemn them, he loved them. Perhaps if we as Christians did a better job of behaving like Him and less like the pharasees he called "broods of vipers" and "hypocrites", we would be a lot more effective. If He doesn't condemn us, why do we condemn them? Their sin is just as evil in the eyes of the Lord as yours and mine. While I do not champion their practices and will never encourage it, I do not condemn them! I have been told to love, and to be salt and light. Not a pharasee. Not a juror.
