by the Christian Church. So how is it possible to say that it is the "word of God", when it has been altered and edited over centuries?

This info comes from a show I am watching right now, "Who Wrote The Bible", on THE HISTORY CHANNEL.
-As for the person talking about Bible code, that has been debunked. Someone performed the same work on "War and Peace" and found the exact SAME things. You can always simply adjust the formulas to find whatever messages you are looking for.....Bible code is a JOKE.

EXACTLY! I keep trying to tell my overly religious nutcase of a friend that the Bible is a book of stories...stories that have been translated over and over again, and we cannot take them at their word. They are stories, a kind of moral compass to guide us. I also don't believe that it's possible to live by the bibles standards. It was written 2000 years ago. The world is a much different place than it was then. There is no mention of internet, cars, computers....any of those things....it's just not possible to go sacrifice a lamb in your backyard anymore!!!
Good question, and I hope you get good response. I just with my "friend" was reading this. :)

The Bible absolutely is the Word of God. That's precisely why it's been able to defend itself against false claims that it's been edited and altered and other criticisms throughout the centuries.
An example: The Dead Sea Scrolls.
The Dead Sea Scrolls comprise the oldest group of Old Testament manuscripts ever found, dating back to 100--200 B.C. This is dramatic, because we now have absolute evidence that Messianic prophecies contained in today’s Old Testament (both Jewish and Christian) are the same Messianic prophecies that existed prior to the time Jesus walked on this earth.
Fragments of every book of the Old Testament (Hebrew canon) have been discovered, except for the book of Esther. They include 19 fragments of Isaiah, 25 fragments of Deuteronomy and 30 fragments of the Psalms. The virtually intact Isaiah Scroll, which contains Messianic prophecy, is 1,000 years older than any previously known copy of Isaiah.
The Dead Sea Scrolls appear to be the library of a Jewish sect, the Essenes, who were strictly observant Jewish scribes. The library appears to have been hidden away in caves around the outbreak of the First Jewish Revolt (66-70 A.D.) as the Roman army advanced against the Jews.
Based on various dating methods, including carbon 14, paleographic and scribal, the Dead Sea Scrolls were written during the period from about 200 B.C. to 68 A.D. Many crucial Biblical manuscripts (such as Psalm 22, Isaiah 53 and Isaiah 61) date to at least 100 B.C. As such, the Dead Sea Scrolls have revolutionized textual criticism of the OT because the Biblical texts have been found to be in substantial agreement with the Masoretic text, as well as variant translations of the Old Testament used today.

Do you not understand that scholars have ancient manuscripts and scrolls dating back to B.C. and quite a few dating to the first and second centuries? And the Bible is quite accurate according to these works. At many archaeological sites, evidence has been found supporting what is written in the Bible. Early Jewish scholars when making copies of scrolls actually counted letters in each line to make sure it remained the same, some copies have been found with these markings in the margins of the pages.

Besides believing in the Bible's validity because of my faith in Jesus, look at the Bible code. Goto http://www.exodus2006.com/3code.htm and see all the messages God has left behind for us embedded in His Word. This technique has been tested before on other literature and the bible is the only book that these codes are found.
God Bless!!!

The HISTORY CHANNEL is a cheaply produced TV show.
It is not concerned with doctrinal truth.
All they want is for gullible people like you to watch.
Do your own research and discover the whole truth for yourself.
Then perhaps, you'll be able to believe.

This is true for the forming Christin Church. It took that long after the Death and Resurrection of Jesus for them to come to a consensus as to what was the WORD of GOD in their terms.
