Fresh lime / lemon juice. Contains vitamin C and detoxes your body so you feel lighter literally. The sweet/sourish taste can trigger your mind as well ;)

This might not be a drink but it will wake you up. Do a backward bend. You'd be surprised how much energy you get when you flex the spine backwards. Have your feet together, side by side, toes and heels touching, legs locked out, thigh muscles contracted. Put your hands on your lower back right above the hips, drop the head back and push the hips forward. Reverse the sequence slowely. You might feel a bit dizzy at first but that is normal and will go away after a few days of practice.

I agree, drink tea. More specifically, black tea, also known as breakfast tea. According to About.com http://coffeetea.about.com/library/blcaffeine.htm and various other sources, black tea has the most caffeine of any tea and about 65% of the caffeine in a cup of instant coffee. Its not quite as strong as coffee, but its your best bet besides energy drinks or mocha/lattes sold at coffee shops such as Starbucks or Coffee Bean.
You can also try putting lots of cream & sugar in your coffee to mask the taste.

You have ample suggestions on alternative drinks as well as how to camouflage the bitterness of coffee.I can add from experience that the taste of coffee, bitterness notwithstanding, grows on you & then its a great drink ,a morning treat, believe me.

why dont you switch from coffee to tea? try making tea and add some milk and sugar in it....it's not bitter at all...or maybe you can just take fresh juices like orange, apple, carrot n etc.it gives you more energy than coffee.

tea! its awesome. (black tea in particular- it has the most caffine) my favorite tea is mint tea (with REAL mint leaves) and sugar..mmm so good! if you had the time and/or resources, you could make smoothies using real fruit- (for ex: if you dont have strawberries, dont put strawberry syrup or juice..) so use real fruit to make a smoothie. they are great in the morning and contain natural sugar and energy sources. good luck!
