Mine is only costing just under £2k and we have 220 people.

Weddings can cost a fortune! But with careful planning and a lot of research you can get the most from your budget!. I would say that £5000 for a wedding with 40 guests is more than enough! But it can depend on where you want to get married and which part of the country you live in.

Look in the Yellow pages for help. There is a wedding section with details of all the local services. Get lots of quotes and compare prices to get the best for your money.

My budget for a church wedding next year is £5000. So far we have been quoted £1300 for the reception which is that biggest part of the day and ours is for 100 guests. You can cut corners by making your own wedding invitations, we are also making our own bouquets an buttonholes. Also, if you are getting married next year, try and pay for cars and stationery this year so that you get cheaper prices.

I found www.weddingideasmagazine.co.uk really useful because it doesn't look at the most expensive weddings. The magazine comes out one a month and only costs £2.99, give a go.

Enjoy the planning and good luck

5 grand okay you could actually do this. the reception is quite cheap. have the afternoon party back at your house, dont invite all your mates just close friends and family, then have the night time do in a pub, get a decent wedding cake. only put on a few different snacks to nible on, and then put a few hundred quid behind the bar, if you do it any other way your going to be looking at about at least 10 thou!!!! i spent 12,785 on my wedding day and boy i regret spending that much now !!!
its alot of money to pull out!!!

You will need to look at the cost of the essential item;
REGISTRY OFFICE

FOOD (maybe look into doing finger food in a buffet style)

HIRING OF BAR/PUB/HALL (some bars do free room hiring - as they will recuperate the cost from the drink people will be buying!)

BRIDE AND GROOM CLOTHING (you could look at eBay shops for custom made dresses, or BHS do affordable dresses for brides. You can hire your outfit).

WEDDING INVITES (stationery shops do pretty packs, look at WHSmiths, or make your own!)

It can be done, but you just have to start looking around for the best deals.

Congratulations on the wedding!

Personally I have decided to get married abroad, because I wouldn't get the wedding I wanted in the UK on our budget, and it includes on honeymoon so to speak.

The actual wedding holiday to Jamaica is £2400, plus there is our wedding attire. Most places do free wedding packages so you don't have to worry about the reception, cake, wedding planner, flowers etc. PLUS you get a great beach location. Ours will cost around the £5000 mark with my dress, tiara, H2B suit, wedding favours, wedding photo, reception food (£800) etc.

Just something to think about...
