It's probably nothing...just slept wrong and cut the blood circulation off for a little while. The fact that you can feel it even slightly says that it's not nerve damage. It should feel fine tomorrow.

While sleeping your blood circulation to hand got compressed and for long time there was no circulation of blood to your hand and the finger tips. Normally the numbness should go off after some time you have woke up and started moving about but if still the thumb is feeling numb you try to massage the thumb with coconut oil and water and even then you feel the same then go to a doctor immediately as it could be a serious problem.

This is so weird. This has been happening to me lately. I just returned to the doctor on Friday and he told me that it has to do with a nerve within the neck. He told me I could slight nerve damage from sleeping in a wrong position. He told me to do neck exercises, and sure enough it is starting to clear up.

try massaging it to restore the blood flow to your thumb and wait for a while and if doesn't feel better then it could be a nerve problem. you'll need medical attention for that.
