I have a bulging disk at L5 and it's pushing on my siatic nerve. I can't control my right leg. I have to stand on my left leg. I weigh nearly 300 lbs. so it's hard to take all the weight on one foot. Last night I went flying across the room because I stepped on the right leg and it's useless. I drove home and almost crashed my truck trying to use that leg to break with! I left work crying too! I went in today and stayed all day, but I told them not to expect me tomorrow!

I have the same problem. I have a ruptured disk at L5 and a bulge at L4 or L6, I can't really remember. My sciatic nerve was literally humming all the time. My leg would uncontrollably shake and the pain brought tears to my eyes.

If you cannot not sit and perform your job or if you have a job that requires you to stand, then you should stay home until you get the paint under control. A letter from your doctor to your boss would probably help.

My suggestion would be to stay home and give it some rest. I hope that you are getting some physical therapy and taking pain meds. That was the only thing that got me straightened around enough to begin to function somewhat normally. Oh, by the way, the injury that I incurred happened at work while I was moving file boxes around in the basement because my boss was too cheap to hire someone to do the job. After I was injured and the boss had to pay for my medical care, he found the money! But I have got this injury for life.

Really only you can determine how much pain you are in, you should be able to judge for yourself if you are incapable of working. If your work requires a doctor's note you should be able to get one judging by your diagnosis of a bulging disk. Most employers understand injury and pain, but seeing as how yours is chronic you might have to consider some other line of work.

i would say go to the doc, and stay home. ask the doctor about weight loss tips, since that would help your back a lot. try to get in a pool and start swimming. it's a great way to exercise, and it keeps the weight off your back. good luck, and i hope you feel better.

i usually have to be pretty sick, or infectious, to stay home, despite what my mom and hubby tell me.
