I'm a non-smoker. Most places that I've seen allow employees 2 breaks and a lunch. However, smokers are also allowed cigarette breaks. How is that fair and doesn't that encourage smoking?

I don't think it is fair for smokers to get extra breaks, all the companies are doing is encouraging a bad habit that the government is trying ban. Besides non-smokers should be entitled to same amount of breaks, everyone is complaining about equal rights. I think smoke breaks should not be allowed at all and let smokers suffer till the end of their day.

Yes...it is encouraging! The ONLY way I was able to even take a break when I was a Correctional Officer was to go smoke. If you weren't a smoker they expected you to always be in the Officer's Station...if you smoked you HAD to go outside. I smoked more just because I could get out of the hell hole.

I also feel like it is unfair. Now at ever job I have I make sure I let them know I don't smoke but that if I see other smokers getting a smoke brake that I will be taking a brake as well. Most of the time they still let them smoke but they don't yell at me when they see me take a brake. Don't let them tell you that you can't. If they do, tell them you smoke and go outside and just sit and relax. No need to start doing it, it will only kill you early.
