I want to get a tattoo of a sparrow and one of music notes. But I've heard that getting colored tattoos on darker skin is very hard to do and can cause scarring and keloids. Can any give me any advice on what to do when I shop for any artist??? Please tell me that I can get a color tattoo. Thanks in advance!

Scarring and keloids shouldn't happen if you have a good tattoo artist. This only happens when the artist goes in too deep with the needle or has his/her power supply set way too high. The only hard thing about tattooing darker skin is your color selection. Lighter pigments don't look good on darker skin. (i.e. white, yellow, etc.)

When looking for the right artist, the most important thing is making sure they are very sterile and have a clean shop. Feel free to ask the tattoo artist questions about sterilization.

Check out the artist themselves. From personal hygiene to personality. You will be spending some time with this person so make sure you feel comfortable. It will make your tattoo experience all the better.

Lastly comes the art. Every artist has their own style. Make sure it's the right style for you. And when you are done don't forget to tip them.

i think that if your skin tends to keloid whenever you get a cut, or surgery, then it would possibly do the same when you get a tattoo. a tat is basically a scar anyway, so take the knowledge of what happens when you are injured.
as for color, i have heard that black, red, and blue are good colors for darker skin, depending on how dark your coloring is.
make sure you look at the artist's book (portfolio), and that the shop is clean! go to as many shops as you want, since you have the design in your head, not on a wall.

good luck. don't drink alcohol before.

Well technically every single tattoo ever is a scar... I have my entire back covered and you can feel raised skin where the lines are. It is a slight form of a scar. As for the colors I would recommend against them seen as your right about darker skin being more difficult to color and on top of that colors will fade mutch quicker than a B+W or even maybe a B+W with a few dark colors. Either way if you like to tan forget the color or it will fade horribly quite quickly.

The darker your skin, the harder it is for color to show. Its like trying to draw with colored pencils on brown paper bag, compared to white drawing paper. Consider a black and grey tat with maybe a blast of color, like red or something that will show.
When you look for an artist, ask about they handle black skin. Does your skin keloid? Maybe you can get a 'test tat'? I dont even know if that is allowed or if its done. Hmmmm....alll good questions to ask an artist.

Good luck!
