I'm lack of reading. Just by looking at the portion of contents within any books, it freaks me out. I want to be intelligent. Well, that's how everybody wants to be. Right?

So, my question is
What can I do to release a stress about reading? How can I do that?

Have you tried books on tape? Or read thin books.

Set a time to read 15 minutes at a time. Don't think of the big picture but rather small goals. Once you are able to read 15 minutes a day for a week, try adding 5 minutes. Do this until you can build up to 30 minutes a day. That will give you confidence in your reading and not make it feel so overwhelming. That will reduce your stress.

I think the best solution is to read! Don't limit yourself to reading text books or literature for school. Read for recreation and fun.

The more you read, the more you can read, the better your understanding, the larger your vocabulary, etc.

So if you like sports, go to a book store and look for sports books. There's a whole seciton of them. If you like humor and sports, there's a whole section of humor, with a sports section!

Read books, magazines, web articles, anything that you have an interest in, and learn to read a good mystery for fun too. Budget time in your day (bedtime is a good relaxer) to read something for fun or entertainment at least 15 mintues a day, then build up as your reading improves.

Don't be shy about getting books at your reading level. If you're a teenager, but you read at a lower grade level, get books that are the right reading level. There are some terrific 4th grade chapter books that are funny no matter what age you are.

Find a good librarian and share your frustration and she or he can certainly recommend something that interests you.

Once you make reading part of your life, you'll see that you're improving your reading and your stress about it will be gone!

Good luck!!!

Take it bit by bit. Remeber you dont have to read the whole book at once. So read chapter to chapter and then take a break. Reading is like any large task. You first have to prioritize each segement and then knock them out one by one. Its the same with reading any book.
