NO. Everyone is not born Atheist. An Atheist is one who has experience and "facts" and makes the decision that the facts do not support the existence of a God. Newborn children have no experience and are not in possesion of any facts.

Atheism is not the same as being without a belief in gods. Atheism is an active disbelief in gods. You have to know what a god is before you can disbelieve in it. Babies are born without a belief in gravity, the sun, the planets and the USA. That doesn't mean it disbelieves in gravity, the sun, the planets or the USA.

The baby is not only born with no belief in gods but it is also born with no disbelief in gods. That is not the same as atheism. It is not even the same as agnosticism. It is called ignorance. An atheist or agnostic isn't ignorant of the idea of gods.

We are not born atheists. We are born ignorant.

Actually, I hate to break it to you, but we're hardwired for religion. Not just any religion, but the human mind seems to want to believe in GODS. I was startled to learn this, but that's one of the recent psychiatric discoveries that are making people rethink some of what they've previously believed.

But kids want to understand EVERYTHING, so they ask exactly that. If you think about it, that's not a very atheist question. That's a curious question. And in some religions, has an answer. In Greek religion, for example, the gods have a source. But anyway, children want you to teach them what you know, and what some of us know, is that for whatever reason, praying helps.

If you're old enough to think for yourself, then you don't have to believe anything just on somebody else's say so. With that in mind, beware just believing anything a guy in a white labcoat says (cold fusion, anyone? we can make mistakes) as blindly as some do anything a guy in a robe says. Think for yourself, and be like that child- keep asking questions.

Children ask alot of questions, about everything. But if people are born Atheists then you could expect to find whole cultures of Atheists in some remote jungles that are not touched by modern man, or some historical references of people that never believed in a God. But even where never touched by "missionaries" they always have a God in their culture and belief.

First of all, a child asking who made God, does not necessarily mean that child does not believe in God. My kids after they accepted Christ asked that question. It is hard for a child to comprehend that God always existed. When you think about it that is hard for adults to understand too. Are we all born atheists? No- God actually created us with an emptiness that can only be filled by Him- we have to chose to accept or reject.

Yes, we are all born atheists and then brainwashed. I would not teach children about God. Not the Abrahamic God, anyway. Pantheism is the way to go if you just HAVE to "believe" in something.

Hi Black Atheist. No everyone is not born a atheist. At the beginning of Mary's pregnancy with Jesus she visited Elizabeth who was pregnant with John the Baptist. When the baby in her womb heard the voice of Mary, he leaped with joy. In Luke 1:41-45 God tells us:

"And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. 45 Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord."

That Elizabeth called Mary's baby Lord is a confession that Christ is God, this language shows that Elizabeth was saved.

The baby in Elizabeth's womb also leaped with joy, this shows that the unborn John was also saved.

Actually children usually assume an intelligence behind everything. i think the idea of god makes a lot of sense to them. It actually takes a logical brain to see (on your own) that there is no intelligence behind any of it.

They have done studies about creationism/evolution in families and find that creationism is sort of a default for children and evolution only comes about from outside education (in general!!!!) So we are fighting an uphill battle.

Children ask those questions because they naturally have difficulty accepting something as illogical. But, with continued pressure from their elders they soon loose this natural ability and eventually accept the superstitions as fact.
