I suspect that my little brother is coming over to my house when I'm at work and is using my phone to make obscene phone calls. I want to record him in the act. What equipment do I need and how do I install it. Remember I don't want him to know I'm recording him. Any help will be appreciated!

P.S. I'd be willing to spend around 150$ or less for equipment...

First of all myopic_chaos is wrong. You can record your own phone IF it is in YOUR house and no one else has permission to be on your phone or in your house.
Now if you are trying to do something that you are not suppose to just to hear his calls, then you are just wrong.
Radio Shack has an entire system in which the conversations will be recorded from the time the phone is picked up until it is hung up. This will last until the tape ends. You have a right to protect your property and life. That phone bill is YOUR property, protect it.
If this is your house and you are recording then he will not know.
The system will not cost more than $150.
GOOD LUCK!!!

You can do whatever you want in your home and it not illegal (Well there are a few things like Cooking Meth and holding people captive). Obscene phone calls are what is illegal. All you doing is protecting yourself, in the event someone track the calls and the police come to your house. Go to Radio Shack and see what they have. You may need to do some Searches on the Internet too. But, there is equipment you can buy. What you are going to need to do. If, he is doing this then you really need to contact the police and have them handle this. They can get a court order to Legally tap the phone. I know this your brother, but, you better think real clear on this. Obscene phone calls are illegal and if he calling people they may go to the police and it be far worse for him OR YOU!!!! So, nip this in the Bud. First get the monitoring equipment so you are sure he is doing this. Then contact then proper authorities and have them do something. If, they not want to do anything, then have them give you a signed paper stating they will not do anything. Then later you have proof you tried to have this taken care of. I will try to search for you, but, I not sure what I find.

You may have some legal problems there- you can't record a phone conversation unless:

some States:

1 of the parties knows

other states

BOTH parties know.

Lock one of the phones in your room and set up the equipment . You will spend LESS then 150- no problem

Radio shack will get you there- they will have the cords, and a tape recorder (digital or otherwise) set for "vox" meaning it only turns on when it hears a volume over a certain amount.

The legalities are yours my friend- but it will be illegal as far as I am aware.

Ah tisk tisk people- doubt me if you must- but it's not YOUR butt- is it? It's the askers.

If he was doing this and didn't know that his brother was on the line, he might be innocent- but he is purposefully recording his brother without his brothers knowledge.

here is a link that sums it up

If in doubt, please check with your lawyer first. I am sure that there is something that would make it legal in these circumstances- just make sure you cover yourself.

that's easy, just get a line-recorder for 15 dollars at Radio-Shack...you can use any old tape-recorder machine...hide it behind some furniture....and go...if anyone picks up the phone, it starts recording....
