Salt draws out the water in the germs and bacteria that are affecting your throat and they die. This will give relief, although probably temporary. This isn't a long term solution or a fix but just temporary. If pain or swelling continues you should seek medical help.

In the old days when creams werent around salt could be used on sore's, sure it killed but it didint get infected
