I had a Le Fort I osteotomy surgery and the plates are sticking out too much under my skin. In addition one of the plates has a loose screw. How soon after such surgery is considered safe for removing the titanium plates?

The reason for asking is that one doctor says 6 months and another 3. Who should I trust since 3 months difference is not that little and the plates really bother me. But at the same time I don't want to remove them too early.

My daughter had this surgery and hers were just pins and the doctor said she must keep them forever as the bone would grow over them.
