Why do Jewish people and fundamentalists Christians say the world is only 6049 yrs old?

Form what event do the Jewish people start their calender?
also from what event do the Christians date their calender?
Could not someone say the world is only 2007 yrs old based on the Christian calender dating?

Actually, Jews say it is 5767 years old, and we count it from the approximated time of "Adam and Eve." Of course we don't really know how old the world is, but we do have to count from somewhere.
