I live in the Delaware/PA area. How much do Samoyeds pups cost? How much have you paid?

why not try a rescue group? there are hundreds of dogs that need good homes!

rescued dogs are wonderful! they are already spayed/neutered, shots, potty trained, behavior tested, health checked and cost about the same as a pup....etc.

I have never purchased a Samoyed but I can roughly answer your question as I know a little about dog breeding.

You are buying a companion who will be with you for a long time, so dollar amount is not so important as the reputation of the dealer from whom you purchase your pet. A private breeder will charge more than the local pet store. Check with the American Kennel Association. They will point you to reputable breeders in your area. Make a few phone calls and you should be able to determine the going price for a good animal. A breeder is the best way to go; most value their reputation and love their animals.

It is better to shell out a few more dollars because good breeders offer the healthiest animals. This gets you a pet who will not have health problems later on. You know it comes from good stock and has been well cared for.

There is one thing to consider about a Samoyed that I must mention. I used to keep an Old English Sheepdog, another extremely hairy beast. I kept her beautifully groomed but twice a year I had her professionally done.

Whenever I phoned around for good pricing I got this very specific answer. Of course the dollar figure changed over the years but you will get the general drift.

"$45 for most dogs. $100 for Old English and Samoyeds."

The reason is that these dogs are the hardest of all breeds to keep clean and their coats are so incredibly thick. Keep that as a consideration. They don't care if your dog is perfectly groomed, it is still a Samoyed! And these dogs are not nearly so beautiful if they are not lovely and white.

Good luck ... and may you find the perfect puppy.

Samoyeds (from a reputable breeder) can cost around $600 or so.
