Well, it depends what you want. They both require extensive (and can be expensive) grooming, Maltese hair mats VERY easily and you will need to COMB from root to tip daily, over the entire dog. Yorkies can matt up too, so every other day combing will likely be required. Both dogs have a tendency to be yappy. If well socialized, both breeds can be very outgoing and friendly, though Yorkies MAY have a tendency to be more aggressive, they are terriers after all. Ummm, the other possible benefit to a Maltese is that you could have an experienced groomer dye your dog pink lmao! (seriously, it can be done!)

I work at petsmart grooming salon and handle these types of breeds pretty much everyday. These breeds are the luck of the draw, some are crazy, some are shy and timid, some bark non-stop and some are actually sweet. I would say to ask the owner(s) about the parents of the dog, than when picking a puppy look for its personality..(does it run and hide..does it come up to you wagging its tail..?) but both are about 30-40$ to get groomed about twice a month. (they become matted very easily and will get sores and abrasions from the mats if not groomed often.) High maintance dogs that require lots of housebreaking and attention.
Good Luck

If you're looking for what will suit your needs and which you will be able to handle, look on animalplanet.com. They have a breed selector that will tell you all you need to know about the breeds. They have ALL dog breeds and list an easy to read need graph. Definitely look there. =) Choose carefully and good luck with whichever!

I have a yorkshire terrier mix and she is Awesome! My husband & kids just love her soooo much! Yorkshire terriers are very loving affectionate dogs. They do not shed, their playful. They let you know when someone's at your door, but they aren't hyper, loud & annoying like some small dogs. Please consider adopting a dog. check out www.petfinder.com Good Luck!

Both are small. Both are absolutely tooooo cute for words. Both are intelligent dogs. It is completely a matter of choice. But, if you got a puppy that is a mix of both, you will get the best of both worlds, which is a lot.
No matter which you choose, you win!

Both good options and pretty similar in many respects. Here's some more Yorkie info - http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/yorkshire-terrier-information.html
Good luck with your decision.

Well, I have a maltese and they're very messy. Unless you're willing to clean poop off their but, get the yokie. But they are very social and loving. Also, Yokies are very loud. They are also not as affectionet and social as Maltese are.
