I've heard that it's the additives in some drinks that give you the hangover and the purer the alcohol the less the hangover. Can anyone verify this? Is there any brands, drinks I should try?

I have had the best of luck with the high end single malt scotches. Go get a bottle of The Macallan. I drink 18 year old, but 12 is OK. Glenmorangie is good too. I am not much into Glenlivet or Glenfiddich... not smoky enough.

I have heard other people talk about a good drunk with Vodka. Again, good quality is a must -- gray goose, preferably,

It is actually the sugar that you ingest from the drinks that makes you have the hangover. Typically, the sweeter the mixed drinks that you have, the faster the buzz and the worse the hangover. The best remedy I have found that works is:
1. For every 2 drinks you have, have a glass of water.
2. Drink as much water as you are comfortable drinking before going to bed with a couple of Aleve tablets or aspirin.

Drink what you like, don't mix and each hour as you party, down a nice sized glass of water. That will limit your hangover-remember a hangover is mostly just plain ol' dehydration. Personally, I stay away from the sugary girlie drinks-they dehydrate you even further.

Drink a qt. of butter milk before you start your drinking, this will coat your innards, and allow you to not get drunk so quick,Its not the alcohol that gives you the hangover its the pop mix that has sugar in it, that causes the hangover.

hangovers, my speciality!!!

Eat a good meal before you go out, and take a couple 'milk thistle' pills, available from good health food shops. Drink quality drinks with good reputable brand names although the more you mix, the more your liver will have to work. Drink 1 or 2 pints of plain water before you go to bed, take another glass to bed with you. Be prepared with paracetamol and imodium for the morning after.

Still feeling groggy.....Mcmuffin anyone?

Hangovers are caused by fusel alcohols. Fusel alcohols are a byproduct of fermentation and are often found in high concentrations in distilled liquor. Unfortunately the way to find alcohol low in fusel alcohols is to either go with expensive liquors or pale lager beers which naturally have fewer (but take much more to get you drunk).

Just remember to drink a glass of water between each drink & do not get dehydrated & more than likely be able to drink more & get a little buzz. I do this when I have a drink & my friends get annoyed because I'm always the one who doesn't suffer.

Ethanol is converted by your liver into a substance closely related to formaldehyde. It is also a diuretic, so it dehydrates you. If you drink excessively of any liquor it will cause a hangover. Find out what your limit is and don't exceed it.

Hi Drood, If you drink to much of any drink you will be hang over. I use to drink beer, and 3 or more you can get a buzz off,and then stop. No hang over. A Friend.
