Don't take more than the recommended intake of iron. So if centrum contains iron (think it does), I'd just take 1 a day, or find a multi without iron.

EDIT: the above comments are dumb (sorry, no offense)

No, the average person cannot get sufficient amounts of vitamins from everyday food.

No, going over 100% on a vitamin isn't bad for you (with some exceptions). Sarah's nutrition professor is an idiot. People megadose as high as 1g a day of Vitamin C with great results. Find a good multi like "NOW Adam" (by NOW Foods), or if you want something cheaper, just stick with what you've got.

Iron, is one of the exceptions. Males don't need it, Females do.

EDIT2: All these other comments are from idiots.

Sure, if you eat a really healthy and WELL balanced diet, you don't need a multi.

Do you eat 5 diff pieces of fruit a day, 6 diff vegetables, drink a couple glasses of milk, eat some whole wheat bread, a cup of rice, a piece of fish, some chicken, and some red meat?

What do you mean? You mean your diet doesn't comprise of a variety of foods from every food group each day?

Neither does most people's. Don't worry, that's why we have multivitamins.

Take your multi, follow directions on the bottle. If you don't know enough about vitamins to choose for yourself whether it is safe or not for you based on your age, weight, and diet, then just follow the damn directions.

Probably not, most of the over the counter multivitamins arent actually doing much anyway. When different vitamins are put into a product most of the vitamin is not BIO AVAILABLE to your body so you are not getting any nutritional value from it. This meaning your body breaks the vitamin down before it can do any good at all. Try to get the large amount of your vitamins from natural foods(fruits and veggies). Personally i am a firm believer in natural nutrition...I mean its not like a banana is here for nothing. At any rate dont worry bout the two centrum you are taking.

regardless of how lively you're you mustn't might desire to take nutrition supplementations. Being very lively potential you may desire to consume extra and with extra nutrition come extra supplementations. in basic terms some athletes that sweat a lot e.g on long runs might choose some salt and that may not even a nutrition yet a mineral. Now as for the supplementations themselves the water soluble ones ie the B complicated (B1, B2, B3 and so on) and nutrition C might nicely be taken in a lot larger parts than the cautioned (nonetheless there's a shrink someplace) , the surplus in basic terms gets flashed out in urine. so a lot extra care is mandatory for the fat soluble supplementations A,D,E and ok a number of which should not be surpassed via approximately thrice their cautioned quantity.

Do not do that. Too much can cause death from liver failure since they are not food. It is better to use greens drinks which contains no ADDED vitamins and minerals but contain superfoods. I am a nutritionist and do not take multivitamins. See site below.

if that vitamin has a lot of 100% DV or above then its probably not smart. why do you do this? I always learned from my nutrition professor that there is no need for multivitamins because you can get every vitamin from food. a lot of people take multivitamins but the food they eat has vitamins as well so every day they are getting over 100% of what they need. I think you might have to have A LOT more for it to be a problem, just check the bottle if it says a lot of them are 100% then definitely only take one

Even if you take one, your body is not absorbing 100% of the vitamins. It's like 40-60% is actually getting absorbed. The rest will just come out from your body...will not get absorbed no matter how many you take them.

It's not a good idea because some of the vitamins in it get dangerous in higher doses (I think vitamin A & Iron are two of them.) A lot of vitamins are OK to take in higher than the recommended dose, but some really are not.

it's only bad if you're taking more than the recommended dose. people who need to increase their dose of vitamins are those who have acute or chronic illnesses in order to help them help fast. for centrum only one tablet a day is the recommended dose. all drugs we take are detoxified and metabolized by our liver and excreted by our kidneys. too much drugs over the recommended dose could damage our liver and kidneys slowly. one centrum a day is enough. you can get more vitamins from the food you take and from fruits especially. :-)

Yes, taking too many vitamins can be bad for you by causing your kidneys to work harder than they should.
