It's however many the bride and groom agree upon. They can have as many as they want, or not have them at all. There's no rules for things like this.

If they do have bridesmaids and grooms, they usually have the same amount of each.

its up to you and your groom.
Try not having too many I would say about two - four bridemaids and groomsmen would be perfect. this way you can keep track of the whole wedding party for rehersals and pictures. have the ones that are really close to you and that will help you plan and be there for support for the wedding. You dont even need bridemaids or a maid of honor but if you do choose to have them than you need a maid of honor to be the main girl who will be there to help you out with anything you need, than you pick your bridemaids, if you want a younger girl in your wedding, most likely a cousin who is too young to be a flower girl but seems to be still a child usually the age of 14-16 than you call her your junor bridesmaid, than you can pick a flower girl who is usually is between the age of 3-10. Now there should be the excate same amount of guys as girls. He needs to have a best man, than the grooms men, than if he wants a junor grooms man and than a ring boy. So all together not including you and your groom would be about 10, five girls and five boys. But honestly its up to you and your groom, some have 20 or more in the wedding and some have none. So just look at who you would want to be in it and go from there.

I've heard of weddings where there's only one for each; a Maid of Honor and a Best Man. I've heard of weddings with as many as nine for each; bridesmaids, junior bridesmaids and flower girls, with an equal number of groomsmen, junior groomsmen and a ring bearer. The numbers don't have to be even.

At our wedding, I'm having four bridesmaids, and my fiance is only having a Best Man.

As many as you want to have. You only need a couple of witnesses, and the minister or Justice of the peace. and yourselves.
