I mean I'd like to be freshly showered and shaven so should I just get on it and hope he comes over?

Uhm, why? Whatever. It's your body. If you like to feel freshly showered and shaven, do it for yourself. Eventually you'll stop dating and find yourself in a real realtionship, then he'll come to expect a showered and shaven girl and you'll feel like you don't have to impress him anymore. Do what you are comfortable with and stop going out of your way to impress men.
