I was always real good at getting 8 hours of sleep, then as I got older I started to become a "night owl" and now I have severe insomnia. I've had to go to a Dr. and get prescription sleep meds to get even 6 hours a night now. If you can break the pattern without drugs than try it because MOST sleeping meds are addictive. If I don't take one a few hours before bed now I don't sleep.

Well in my case I was diagnosed a severe manic depressant which contributed to insomnia and addiction. I finally asked for help and was prescribed Zoloft and Trazadone. The longest I ever stayed up without drugs or alcohol was 12 days straight. If your anything like me take prescribed drugs but I am a pretty severe case.

Don't know. But PLEASE let me know when you find out.
Been battling insomnia for years, but worse since I was diagnosed with a brain tumor back in August and had brain surgery to remove it in September. In spite of meds the Dr.s gave me to combat the problem, I still spend most of the night awake. I have found that it has alot to do with the fact that, especially since the surgery, I have become painfully light sensitive, and nighttime is just a more comfortable time for me to be conscious. Have you ever looked into seeing an eye doctor to see if maybe you too are light sensitive? If so, there are remedies for that that may work for you, special glasses/contacts, vitamins or prescriptions that would help alot. Also, Ambien is a good, and from what my Doc tells me, non-habit forming sleep aid. It just didn't work for me. Good luck!

Drink chamomile tea, deep breathing exercises and acupressure (uses the same points on the body as acupuncture but you can do it on yourself). There are points in the middle of your sternum that you apply gentle pressure to and deep breathe at the same time. Also a point right between your eyes called 3rd eye.Worked for me.

When I work more, (meaning studying), I do believe I sleep better in the night. I know that doing work will help you sleep better, just doing more things you would consider work throughout the day. Just doing something considered work will help you sleep better. Do more work throughout the day.
