I know their are lots of sites, but any for free?

Im trying to find out how much Indian I have in me, since my father's side has Cherokee and my mother's side has Sioux.

My boyfriend has enough Indian to where he got the NA papers at birth (his mom is 3/4 Indian), and I also need to know how we can find how to retrieve those papers & get new documents to replace the old lost ones?

Rootsweb.com is a good place to start. Not only is there a lot of info there, but you can sign up for mailing lists of groups that you have something in common with - based on surnames, locations, ethnicity, etc. People in genealogy are very helpful and I'm sure you'll find some who can get you going in the right direction. Ancestry.com is expensive, but some libraries have it, and you can use theirs. If you need more help, you can e-mail me at cmm_home@yahoo.com. I don't have any Indian ancestry, but have been working on my own genealogy for several years now, so I know some of the resources.

First find out everything you can from your family, your relatives, you might get some leads that way. If you know where they were born ect. I dont know of any free sites but maybe if you type in free geneology and search google you can find something. Sounds like fun ,I hope you find out lots of neat info! Oh also I just thought of something this question has been asked before so type in free geneology info then search on the yahoo answers bar.looks like some links there.

You can find out your ancestry by simply asking your parents who your grandparents are. Then, ask your grandparents who are your greatgranparents. After that, go to the National Statistics Office in Washington D.C. Search for your ancestry. If you know some people closely related to you, ask them. If everything doesn't go on your way, pray to God and ask for guidance and strength.
