I have 2 moles (size of pencil erasers) on my cheek and I am very embarrassed to talk about them or anything, so my question is how can I lead up to the conversation about getting them removed? What should I say? Whats the best way to get them removed? Can my family doctor do it? How long does it take to heal? Thanks

Just tell her. Once you've said it then it won't seem so scary or embarrassing. Your family doctor can remove them. They just numb the area and snip it off. It heals as fast as any other cut on your body. Just to warn you though, it might leave a scar. Getting moles removed really isn't a big deal. It's a beyond routine procedure for any doctor. People get it done all the time.

I have had several taken off my face. It takes a while for them to TOTALLY heal, but depending on the size they look fairly "normal" after about 3 days. Longer if your physician thinks you'll need stitches or a stitch (for pretty big ones).

If you really can't just bring it up with your mom, you could try the health approach. Something like, "I've read that sometimes bigger moles can turn into skin cancer..." Actually, insurance covered having mine removed for that exact reason. Good luck.

Yes your family doc can probably do it or he will refer you to someone who removes them. You should not have a problem asking your mom about getting them removed. Just tell her the moles on your cheek are kind of embarassing for you and you would like to get them taken off.

Just be open and honest with your mom. Tell her you need to have a few minutes of her time to talk -and when you do have this talk, tell her about how you would appreciate getting the 2 moles removed from your cheek, and could she please make an appt. with your family dr. to get it taken care of. If the dr. doesn't, he/she can do a referral to a dermatologist (skin dr.) to do it. As for your other questions, the dr. can best answer them. Take care.

"Mom I want to get these moles removed." A family doc may do it you would have to ask him or her. A dermatologist would be your best bet and your family doc may refer you to one.
