I believe most UFC fighters use a Thai cup made out of steel because they get involved with some stand-up work where you are more likely to get a powerfull kick to the groin.

However if you are doing only submission wrestling the best cups to use in my experience are standard cups you would use for baseball etc... its probably best to go for one like the Shock Doctor or XO cup as these have flexible sides which means they are more likely to be comfortable for your groundwork.

If you are planning on stand-up stuff as well I would recommend a Thai cup as these are the only ones capable of protecting well against a powerfull blow.

In terms of size if your an adult choose an adult cup, youth a youth cup and so on. the cup sizes themselves don't change just the jockstrap or compression shorts which hold them. In this case they go by waist size.

My MMA students prefer to wear the Shock Doctor groin protector with the compression shorts. Is an Excelent Protector. And you buy by waist size and adult, youth child etcetera. You can buy it in MMA catalogs or in century.

Alot of MMA fighters wear these, either tucked it to tight Vale Tudo shorts or slipped into a Jock strap.

I wear it in a Jockey, it is very comfortable and abit of a tool in itself. Take somebodies back and grind it into them, it's very uncomfortable and will make someone give up a posistion
