by a few of the users on yahoo answers based on a prior question I asked. They were concerned that social security benefits might not be enough to replace my child support. Anyone out there taken this step and mind sharing the details?

I haven't, but I have done this for my clients.

As the custodial parent of his child, you have an insurable interest in your ex's life, so you can own a policy on his life. As the policy owner, you will have full authority to designate the beneficiary.

Yes you can get a life insurance policy on your ex, BUT he HAS to know about it and sign for it. Also, most of the time there are medical exams, blood draws and the release of medical records required for underwriting.
I have one on my son's father and he has one on me.

you can only collect on a life insurance policy if your ex dies & you are the beneficiary on it.
