We have a 6 month male and don't want them to breed and we don't want to neuter them yet. The female is 41/2 years old. Is she In Heat twice a year. The best way to handle this is how?

They definitely need to be kept separate (I'm sure you know that already!) The season lasts for three weeks.... usually.... NOT ALWAYS! the bltch is ready to breed around the 12th to 14th day of season. As I said though.... usually. The more primitive the breed the more 'unusual' the season.... and Shiba Inu is pretty close to being a primitive breed.

the best way to handle this is spay and nueter, your dogs will enjoy better health if you do it sooner rather than later
