I am looking for an engagenent ring set with the above criterea that has a precious stone other than a regular diamond. Perhaps a blue diamond, or some other unique stone. Any ideas?

I'm not sure if you're interested in the precious stone because of price or just to have something a bit different. If price is a factor, you may want to consider a synthetic diamond. I've had a site bookmarked for a couple years because I would prefer to have a synthetic diamond rather than a conflict diamond.

A synthetic diamond is simply a man-made stone. It is a diamond, just not a natural one. This company is Diamond Nexus Labs, and they are considered one of the best. The untrained eye can't even tell the difference.

Good luck!

You may want to check EBay. I have seen some platinum rings with Sapphire instead of diamonds in the settings. You also may be able to check with a local jeweler where you can pick a setting and then have the stone or stones of your choice mounted. Hope this may help. Good Luck.

Any jeweler can do this for you. Most jewelers have some engagement rings that are not diamonds but other stones, and any jeweler can swap a sapphire or ruby for a diamond in any ring they have. However, avoid soft stones such as emeralds, opals and pearls, because they are too easily damaged to wear every day and will become chipped and worn.

I would definately go to a fine jewlery store. A lot of good jewlery stores do NOT pay their employees based on commission. This means working with people who do not get anything based on what you buy and will not pressure to get the most expensive thing. They are very nice and will work within your budget. The usually have a wide selection of loose stones that you can look at and pair with whatever setting you want. If you are anywhere near NJ let me know and I will direct you to a great place. My fiance got my engagement ring there and we have been nothing but thrilled with them. It would be worth a bit of a drive.

nope it can't be. or at least i would not advise it. why not take the diamonds and have the same ring made in white gold which would be cheaper then platinum? since you have the diamonds already it shouldn't cost more than $4000. for both. most jewelry stores can give you any estimate. if u are smart then you would ask for the old gold 18k and sell it use the cash for ur deposit towards the new rings.

This is not somthing you want to buy online...way to important!! if you have a Jarad's or other high quality jewelry store there go and look. Do some leg work and fing a nice quality stone. Its nice to see another man thinks like me my fiance' has an emerald that I hunted down in a white gold setting with small diamonds surounding it ,Good Luck!!!

Go to a local jeweler...not someone in the mall or Birks or a chain. Go find a "mom & pop" jewler where they make rings and create the look you want.

my personal favorite diamond is the canary diamond. its stunning- but only if you have the money. its cost around 25-35 thousand dollars... but then there is also the yellow diamond which is similar but not nearly as pricey

Ebay is your best bet. I got a beautiful platinum engagement ring for my fiancee off it.

Try websites like overstock.com or ebay.com as suggested. There are so many resources on the net for half-price jewelry I'm sure you'll find something.
