My ex claimed my daughter on his taxes without my permission. My daughter lives with me and I support her financially. He did the same thing last year and it took me 8 months to get the money from the irs. The irs said that there would be a block on my daughters ss# but obviously there isn't. How do I report him for tax fruaud and press charges against him?

Don't bother, it's not worth it. The IRS already knows about him anyway so there's nothing to report. They will decide whether or not prosecution is in order. You really don't get a say in that.

You'll have to file a paper return and go through the hassle again this year. It sucks, but there's no way around it.

No need to take this matter into your own hands. Presumably, you are legally entitled to claim your daughter as a dependent, so do so.

Either the IRS will accept your return as filed, or the whole scenario will trigger an audit, forcing the IRS to sort it out.

You have been married, so not eligible to document as head of enjoyed ones. simply by fact the reason you weren't jointly grew to become into that he grew to become into away temporarily looking after ill kin, you probably did not qualify for the exception for separated mothers and dads whether you had a infant of yours living with you. you have gotten filed a joint return, yet could have needed the two his signature or his potential of lawyer. so which you probably did not document wisely. it is not tax fraud nevertheless, extra a mistake, so the main that would desire to take place is which you will might desire to amend your return and particular pay some added tax. He has no criminal declare to 0.5 the refund funds.

Call the IRS. It'll probably take awhile again, unfortunately, to get it straightened out.

I would also add Next year get your return in as early as possible to beat him. Then he can deal with not gettting his return for several months.
