There are many steps you can take... But what it all comes down to is YOU doing your part to decrease your envoronmental footprint.

The two most obvious ways are to either quit driving or drive more efficient cars. And the other is to use technoligies in your home to reduce your CO2 output. I highly recommend solar power for your home.

A new idea has surfaced and you no longer have to spend $40,000 + dollars to have a solar panel system on your home. In fact there are no equipment or installation cost whatsoever.

Your question is entirely too broad and vague. Technically we cannot stop environmental destruction by humans, or any other species, because all life is environmentally destructive.

What we CAN do is to ensure continuation of natural recycling cycles, at least locally, or implement similar cycles.

The popular answer, of course, is, "Force the greedy _____ to cease and desist." The problem with that is invariably that the greedy _____ are providing goods and/or services that make our lives easier or better. However, if you convince the greedy _____ that it is not in their long term best interest to fail to deal with their waste, and that some sort of recycling is profitable, or at least break-even, most will go for it.
