Some Christians memorize the Bible, but not most. Just like most Muslims do not memorize the Koran. As a matter of fact, a majority of the world's Muslims are illiterate and have never read the Koran.

The Bible says thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee. There are many people that do memorize the whole Bible. Especially in Foreign countries. They get one page, and memorize it until they get the next page. That is the only Bible to keep in their mind. There are many people that memorize what they can.

66 books, 1178 chapters, I think.
Read 10 chapters per day and you can finish in 3 months, both testements (I did it once with an easy translation).
The older you get, the more you read to understand. Some people like being able to quote the verse and address, I don't. I find that most Christians read the New Testament, and when I simply refer to a verse, most people know what I'm talking about and I don't need exact wording or location for reference.

Memorizing scripture does help. The bible has many reference as to what to do when you are angry at someone and unless you are memorizng scripture, there is no way youare going to grow in you faith and have something to remember when you are irritated. It doesn't matter how long the bible is, memorize it anyway. it is not hard.

The Quran is the last and final message of Almighty GOD sent for the guidance of mankind. All the previous revelations were cancelled as a result.
The Quran was sent to Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) through angel Gabriel. Just like how he brought revelations from ALmighty GOD to Moses, Abraham and Jesus Christ (Peace Be Upon Them).
But as we know, all the previous revelations have got corrupted by materialistic men by the passage of time. It is only the Quran that has remained un-altered since 1427 years. It is a miracle sent by GOD. Imagine a book of hundreds of pages which can be easily memorised completely by millions of people. There are kids as young as the age of 7-8 years who have memorised it completely. The meaning of the word 'Quran' is something which is read and re-read etc. Infact it is the only book which is the most read since 1427 years.
The Quran is a complete code of life. It has scientific miracles, ethics, code of conducts, financial codes etc.
Watch the facts.

Some Christians try to memorize as much of the Bible as they can. Jack Van Impe has memorized over 100,000 scriptures which is commendable.
Its good to know the Word so you are able to rely upon it and use it for reference, however it is not a requirement of salvation. We get really crazy in our denominations and different faiths to think that we need to pray a certain direction...or say this particular prayer over and over...or other different things. Traditions keep us this way alot...but salvation is based upon the belief in your heart (which only God knows) that Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life on earth, is the Son of God, died and shed his blood for our sins, and most important of all...was resurrected by the Father. If you 'believe' this...you will be changed for the rest of your life...your actions and words will change...if you truly believe. Anyone can say it...but only God knows if you truly BELIEVE. If you do...then you will be resurrected as Christ was...into eternal life in the New Heaven and Earth.
Nothing else matters. Its hard to swallow...but its true. Many are going around doing good deeds, giving to charity, etc..to make themselves feel good...but deny what I have just said. There will be at least 5 other answers here that will deny what I have said...and tell you that you ALSO have to do a bunch of moral stuff to get to heaven...that there is some sort of 'merit' system with God. Like I said...no child of God keeps on sinning. Its a good idea to do good...and give to charities..but you will not be turned away from salvation for not giving to the salvation army...or not going to church.
Its hard to believe but we need to focus...on the salvation part. Remember...all someone has to do is tell you 99% truth for it to still be a lie. If you do everything perfect in this world...and never swear, never steal, never lie...always give to others, visit others in hospitals and prison...clothe the naked...etc....for as long as you live...but forget aboaut the actual BELIEF part of salvation....you will NOT be admitted... something to ponder seriously...I m not joking. The Qu'ran is memorized because their 'book' is different from the Bible. They have 'step by step' directions for most everything they do. The Bible does not require this...we study in the text..but we receive by faith and the Holy Spirit. Memorization is not required for salvation...belief is. Remember...all of the 911 terrorists bragged that they knew the Qu'ran from memory ...they were telling the truth..they had memorized it.. Now...does that shed some light on the 'importance' God places on memorization? I can memorize 'The Turner Diaries" (white supremisist handbook) ...but does that make me right? Its what you do with it that counts..God looks at your heart.
