The forks (both front fork and rear triangle) and hubs must be compatible with disc brakes. The hydraulic-actuated puck-caliper assemblies are mounted on hard points on the forks, and your hubs must be capable of mounting the disk.

yes, you do need some compatible hardware. for the front, the fork must have caliper mounts. this is usually two holes for bolts extented away from the leg. there must be 2 holes on the non drive side of the bike.

on the back, look for the same thing, just above the axle on the non drive side.

your wheel hubs must also have either a 6 bolt pattern or centerlock feature for attaching the disc rotor.

if you dont have these then your stuck with rim brakes.
