If I wear a dress that is calf-length and is high-cut (like at my collar bone), but is sleeveless, is that okay? What constitutes modesty and immodesty? I'd really rather not dress like a frumpy little house on the prarie girl! ;)

I think that dress sounds fine.
I found this guide to modest dress on the internet,I haven't really looked through it yet.

There aren't any rules clearly spelt out,but make sure that you wear something you'd feel comfortable in if you were, say,in the presence of your pastor.

NOT AT ALL! I am a christian woman and I wear binkinis, mini skirts, stilettos, etc...Christianity is about believing in the lord and doing the right thing. Jesus wouldn't have had to die if he knew for a fact humans weren't able or capable of sinning. We're only human and humans enjoy the thrill of being found as sexy, or attractive based on the types of clothes they wear. I can wear a bikini at the beach--as long as I don't murder anyone. Case solved.

I think that depends on the culture. Head over to Europe, and anything goes. In America, it varies -- some parts are pretty liberal, others are conservative.

The reason that's important is this: in a society where everyone wears revealing clothing, you aren't being immodest because no one will really notice or care.

In instructing the overseer Timothy as to seeing that proper conduct was observed in the congregation, Paul said: “I desire the women to adorn themselves in well-arranged dress, with modesty and soundness of mind, not with styles of hair braiding and gold or pearls or very expensive garb, but in the way that befits women professing to reverence God, namely, through good works.” (1Ti 2:9, 10) Here the apostle does not counsel against neatness and good, pleasing appearance, for he recommends “well-arranged dress.” But he shows the impropriety of vanity and ostentatiousness in dress, calling attention to oneself or to one’s means of life thereby. Also modesty relating to respect for the feelings of others and to self-respect and a sense of honor is involved. The Christian’s manner of dress should not be shocking to decency, to the moral susceptibilities of the congregation, causing offense to some. This counsel as to dress would shed further light on Jehovah’s attitude toward the proper view and use of other material possessions that a Christian may have.

So, in telling us that our dress and grooming should be modest and well arranged, the Scriptures encourage us to avoid any extreme styles that would offend others and bring reproach upon our reputation and that of the Christian congregation. Rather than drawing attention to their appearance through physical adornment, those professing reverence for God should display soundness of mind and put the emphasis on “the secret person of the heart in the incorruptible apparel of the quiet and mild spirit.” This, Peter concludes, “is of great value in the eyes of God.”

Strange, isn't it, that men don't have the same rules?

If women try to show a little skin, they're considered "immodest" (or worse), but when men try to do the same thing, it's more like a horror. We encourage women to cover up, but we beg men.

You pray about it, and if God does not condemn you, neither can anyone else. As the scripture says, "let each person work out their own salvation."
The Bible says we are to dress modest and not like the world, but it does not give details and dress requirements down to the inch. So don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

As long as you don't wear something that will entice men to lust after you there is nothing wrong. I wear sleeveless, and it is not inappropriate. There are many women in our church who wear sleeveless. When you go to church you are to dress respectfully.

hehe, i know what you mean. just dress normal but don't go around with your breasts hanging out or a skirt or dress up to your rear. wear nice things that at least cover the important things and don't worry about it!! as long as your not showing yourself off then your good.

Most likely clothing that would cause to reveal anything personal or cause another perosn to sin by lusting.

Use your own discretion, and pray about it.

God Bless.
