Is your knowledge of the English language so terrible that you cannot understand the simple terms used in the king James (Authorised) version? For beauty of language and the fact that it IS, despite its age, an excellent translation (apart from the political influence of King James) it's still generally regarded as one of the best options.
There are other, more scholarly translations available but versions such as the so-called "Good News Bible" are produced for the semi-literate. The translation is poor and all that's lacking are the pictures, to save the illiterati ( :-) ) from having to look at words with more than three letters.
It's similar to the difference between the major newspapers like the Times and The independent compared with the "gutter press".

www.StudyLight.org has just about every version of the Bible (in English) that exists, and the site is super-easy to use. At the top, under 'Choose Bible translation to search' you can use the drop-down menu to select the version that you want. "THE MESSAGE" version is one of the versions that is very easy to understand- it's written in plain, modern English.

I recommend the King James original version--beautiful, rich, haunting and poetic. The New Living translation and the New International Version are good for young people when they start out.
