I don't think so, as long as you know the correct values to put in. I mean if you file electronically, you don't send in a W2. The IRS has copies of them that they call up with your SSN, anyway.

If you missed reporting one of your W-2's on your return, the IRS will compare all tax information provided to them then compare it against your return.

They will make the necessary correction and send you a notice for any differences.

The problem with this scenario is that the IRS tends to take their time with the correction so by the time you get the tax notice, penalties and interest will have accrued on any additional taxes owed.

It's best to file an amended return and include the missing information and pay the tax with some extra amount for penalties and/or interest. At least this way, the amount of penalties and/or interest will be limited.

The unreported income will eventually be found. If it results in additional tax owed, you will probably receive a letter showing the change in tax owed.

Amend your return and add the W-2 that was missing so that you don't have to worry about any further contact with the IRS.

You may want to ask your accountant about that - unless of course you are one of those take the chance and do it yourself.
