Any ideas how to remove Real Player from startup? I keep unchecking it in msconfig, but it keeps coming back. It is not in my startup folder. I want it to go away!

Lol, Realplayer is notorious for doing weird stuff on people's PCs.

If you want, use CCleaner, go to Tools, and go to Startup. Then you can delete the Realplayer startup entry.

You can also uninstall it and use VLC media player, which is much cleaner to play your media files. VLC works with practically everything.

Click on your start button, click on Run. In the run window, type in msconfig and hit the Ok button. When that window pops up, click on the tab at the far right called "Startup". In that window you will see all the programs that will start every time that you start your system. Go through the list and uncheck anything that you don't want loading at start up. Be careful though, if you don't understand what it is that you are reading, try making the center section wider so that you can see what program launches it. And if you still don't understand, you can always do a google search on that name and see what it pertains to. Basically, you can go in there and uncheck the ones that you know are loading, and that you don't want to load until you need them. It won't remove them from your system, just from the start up when you power up your machine. Good Luck!

Have you tried to uninstall Real Player in Control Panel? If you kept uncheck it in msconfig, maybe your Real Player is living with a virus.

Go to Start > Run.

Type regedit.

Navigate to the following directory in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Run

Find a key whose name appears to have a correspondence with Real Player and delete it. It should no longer run at startup.

If you're running genuine Windows XP Service Pack 2, go to microsoft.com and search for a free tool named "Windows Defender." Download it, go through the installation process, and run it. Click on Tools on the top, then click on Software Explorer. Find and select RealPlayer in the left column, then click on "Disable" on the right. Then restart your computer, and the problem should be fixed. (I had the same problem).

Go to the ALL PROGRAMS, and under REAL just go and delete it or uninstall it.
