Just wondering if anyone has had this situation and what you and your vet did to treat. My cat is having problems after being spayed. She has puss coming out of the incision site. I took her to emergency vet yesterday (because my vet is closed) and they gave her an antibiotic and told me to check back with my vet Mon. morning. I am worried and would like any input. Please serious answers only.

Sometimes cats have an allergic reaction to the suture material used. There are three sets of sutures used to close up the incision. I also recommend hot packing her tummy a few times a day. I use a wash clothe and run it under hot water. Wring out all the excess water. When the wash clothe feels comfortable in your hand, place it on the incision for a few minutes. The heat will help with the circulation and help draw out the infection.

Don't be suprised if you notice your cat has some soft stool for the next few days. It's a common side effect when an animal is on antibioitics

Hi,

I have not had this problem with my cats nor am I a vet or vet assistant. I know that pus coming from an incision indicates there is an infection and antibiotics can successfully treat it. I have seen this happen to horses when a wound gets infected.

Checking with your vet is to make sure the antibiotics are working. From my research and other reading, I believe that this is the proper course of action.

Also, when we humans have to go to the ER with an infection, we are advised to follow up with our doctor. I believe this is the same for animals. I also believe your cat will be fine.

I have the same situation...my cat's incision site just started leaking tonight. I'm taking her to the vet first thing tomorrow morning. I'm really worried too, but as my father reminds me, cats are very resilient.

Did they have you put a cone shaped collar on her? I did that with my kitten, but it seems to be freaking her out more than anything else

I feel your pain, and will share my vet's input when I get back!

**update--my kitten was allergic to the dissovable sutures, that's why the infection. they cleaned up the incision, and stiched her up with the "regular" stiches. I'll have to go back in 2 weeks to have them take out the stitches.

hope your kitty is ok!!

The antibiotic will clear up the infection from the inside, the cat will keep the outside clean itself, if the Vet wasn't worried you shouldn't either. You are only worried because it was a different vet.

Get an Elizabethan collar and once you deliver the cat in do no longer sign any surgical treatment launch varieties as they're answerable for this. Do i assume your cats have been introduced homestead in the previous seventy two hours had elapsed? My husband became right into a vet. and continually saved animals for seventy two hours after spaying to "shop a watch on them" as a secure practices ingredient. Any time your cats have surgical treatment, take their temp's 2x an afternoon for 3 days afterwards. set up a baseline examining for each cat (one hundred and one.5 is widely used - regularly) so which you would be attentive to if/whilst something isn't, somewhat, the superb option. wish your kitty will recuperate quickly.

It great that you took your cat to e-clinic, that was a good call. Like any surgery there is a chance of infection. So yes give antibitics that were perscribed and make sure your cat does't lick at insision site, that can not only cause infection but make it worse. See your regular doctor, there should be no reason to make a appt. just go in and have them take a qick look at it, im sure with the antibitics things will clear up.

Is it warm to the touch? (the area around the incision?) I have seen this before in some of our shelter cats and we have used ice packs on their tummy and panalog on the incision--this is something you get at the vet, but you should be fine until tomorrow as long as she is on an antibiotic.

Did you take the litter away??? Change the litter to shreaded newspaper or you can use dry beans ( I used pinto beans ) It keeps the dust out of the wound... Also if she will let you a warm washrag (wet heat not dry heat) will help draw out the infection and make her more comfortable..Good Luck!!!
