It's always tramatic to lose someone. Just knowing that you care is thanks enough sometimes. But a nice gesture would be a donation to a charity of choice in his name. Send a "thinking of you" card. Express to her, how sorry you are for her loss. Give her a hug. :)

It's very considerate of you to think of your teacher at her time of loss. You don't have to say a lot: a simple "I'm very sorry about your father" is adequate. If you like, you could send her a sympathy card. I'm not in agreement with the advice to say "He's in a better place." An afterlife is not part of everyone's belief system and, what's more, right after a death it's not always comforting to hear that even if you DO believe it.

Give her a hug and let her know that you are thinking about her and you will be praying for her and her family to help them through this. When someone loooses a loved one they feel like they can't go any further in their life because they are just so heart broken. She needs her friends to help her get though this hard time in her life.

Say, "I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I will pray for your family."
