My dog is about 35 pounds, entlebucher mix (small swiss mountain dog) and she is a VERY nervous rider in a vehicle. She will just not lie down or relax. She pants and pants and gets herself so tired out that she will sleep for hours when we arrive at a destination or home. I take xanax myself (.05) and just wonder if they would help her, or are they harmful for dogs? THanks

Sure. Many human medicines are the same ones used on animals: http://www.dogsonly.org/StormFear.html
But, don't use Tylenol or Ibuprophen. They are toxic to dogs. Human antibiotics work good with dogs though.
About the Xanax: I think I would just give a part of the pill considering the size of the animal.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aUN5j

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I do know you can give a dog Tramadol for pain. Sometimes....very few; I have given my dog one because my niece worked for a vet and they have given dogs Tramadol-low dose of course. Don't think I would give my dog a Xanax without contacting her vet first.as it would be too risky. Hope this helps.

Try benadryl 25 mg one hour before car trip. I wouldn't give my dog a benzodiazepine med unless the vet said it was ok.

You probably could. A lower dose like half would be better because of her weight. But if you really want to know..Ask a vet.
They do have doggie tranquilizers for dogs who have trouble traveling. You may also want to try and tire her out before a trip. A lot of exercise would be a natural way to achieve your goal.

NO! Here are a few things something you should understand: 1 Prescription medication is prescribed because it can cause many unwanted symptoms and could be dangerous. 2. It is prescribed for 1 individual for 1 condition and is to be taken EXACTLY as prescribed. In not following the prescriber's directions you are putting whomever is taking the medication at SERIOUS RISK! 3. A dog and a human are very different entities. Even between humans prescription medications can cause very different reactions. To put them into a species they are not intended for is VERY risky and should be avoided at all costs!

Not unless your vet prescribed it for your dog and I would bet he didn't. Never give anyone any medication that was not prescribed for them and that includes animals - you could get in trouble with the law.

Oh my gosh!!! Never give a dog human medication without okaying it with your vet. My dog is also a nervous rider and I got some meds from the vet that were quite inexpensive and they work really well.
