Buy a Canon and look for the one that use AA batteries,
this way they are readily available where ever you are.
You can buy the rechargeable ones but in a pinch you
can get a pack of batteries even in a convenience store.

It would be the most economical one.

Think about a Canon A540, The price is right and I'm sure
you will really like it..

Kodak, Sony, Nikon and Canon are the best brands.

Depends on what you want to spend.

The Sony HC-2,W-30 or W50 is nice.

The Canon S3i, SD 600 and A540 is nice

The Kodak 853 and Z712 are both nice

Nikon L5 and L6 are nice.
