I recently found out a neighbor of mine died in his home. The mail began piling up and the postman put things together. The man was discovered dead but a little over a week had passed. I’m told his dog ate a good portion of the deceased’s calf & hamstring during this time. Is this normal? Would a dog actually begin eating a human after such a short time? I was considering adopting this dog until I heard this story. If I were to adopt the dog, would he now try to eat parts of my body while I’m sleeping?

I doubt it maybe he was just extremely hungry
if the dog was a flesh lover he would have eaten more than just that
call a professional like a vet or a Petsmart and ask them

You said: "I’m told his dog ate a good portion of the deceased’s calf & hamstring during this time." You were told is different then knowing for sure, right? Also, there was a movie called Alive, its about a plane crash somewhere cold and they had to survive so they ate the passengers that died in the crash. I think the dog was doing the same thing (surviving) and I don't think the dog would eat you in your sleep, mine doesn't! : ). Anyway, I think that you adopting that dog would be a wonderful thing to do. Good luck.

I heard of a similar story a couple months ago except the man had been deceased for a couple weeksand the dog had eaten his legs and arm. The smell of a decaying human is horrible but might smell like lunch to a dog.

I've heard many stories like this one. After a few days of being food deprived the survival instinct kicks in and the dog eats whats in front of it.
It's doubtful the dog will be put up for adoption as in most cases they are put down immediately.

Would the South American rugby players who turned to canabalism to survive and they ate their friends- would they be cannibals after that ordeal? No they wouldn't. This dog won't either. I hope you can take him in.
He was just starving and ate what was dead. Sorry about your neighbor. I am sure the dog did not look at him as eating his owner the way the South American soccer team had to deal with the feelings of having to turn to eating their dead friends to survive.
It's pretty gruesome but not any of their faults.
No the dog won't try to eat you!

The dog was hungry and did what it could to survive. Sad story. I wouldn't be scared of the dog. Like I said it was fighting for survival.

All issues seen i do not imagine you've something to rigidity about. you ought to understand if the canines began to devour on your leg contained in the approach the nighttime. And he merely did what he had to so he ought to stay alive. no longer something ought to difficulty me about the undesirable canines in any respect.
