I know exactly what you are talking about. The green soap that they rinse you off with. I love it.

I am an exception, because a very close friend referred me to my artist and I got lucky and was comfortable with him very quickly and he was the first artist I talked to. However, I tell people all the time to search around, going into parlors with a design and ask to discuss it with an artist. If you're not comfortable with the shop atmosphere, keep searching for one that makes you feel at ease and find an artist you can talk to easily. Beyond deserving respect and getting good quality permanently applied, you need to remember that you're going to be spending that time getting the work done where it's basically just you and the artist. Expressing concerns, questions, comments, even random conversation is easier the more comfortable you are with the artist. If that guy wants to be an arrogant prick, spread the word that he thinks his time is too valuable to do your memorial piece, and find someone who will give you the time of day and is supportive of your purpose. I wish you the best of luck finding someone worthy of being involved in such a significant event for you, and I'd like to offer my condolences and extend my thoughts to you and your family and encourage you all to keep moving forward...although I'm sure your grandmother would recommend the occasional pause to stop and smell the roses. :)

Yeah, I don't know where you've been going but all the shops I've been to smell like a hospital. I guess that's a good sign though.

I hope they smell like cleaning solutions so you will know they are sterile. The shop I use smells like that but they burn insense to help cover it up some.
