He's a golden retriever he's 3 years old. When he eats food he spits it up then tries to eat it again. When he drinks he sounds like he chokes alot and drools from his mouth. It sounds like he can't get his air passage way clear. Remember I just got him. I will be taking him to my vets. The people that I received him from says he was never trained to eat right. He has a runny nose. Has anyone ever heard of these signs.

It sounds kind of general right now, take him to your vet as soon as reasonable to make sure he is healthy. As far as "eating right" I dont beleive you can teach a dog how to eat. You could however try a few things to slow him down when he is eating. Try small meals frequently. Try "small bites" food where the size of the food is not as large. As far as drinking is he just slobbery? I have two large dogs that are LOUD and sloppy when they drink!! I think they get more on the ground then in there mouths, but it is just how they are. The runny nose could be a sign of many many different things. The most common that comes to mind is a URI or Kennel cough. Neither is very serious and easy to take care of. Just means a round of antibiotics. Was he vacinated? I wouldnt worry a lot about the drinking or eating, as long as overall he seems to have good weight gain and doesnt seem to be distressed.

He was never taught to eat right? What's that supposed to mean? Anyways, the dog could have intestinal blockage. That's what first came to mind. I see that often @ my clinic. A simple xray could say for sure. Take to him a vet ASAP for a definite answer, b/c the runny nose sounds like some possible conjestion. Maybe he is so conjested it's hard to eat & swallow. Sounds like you did this dog a favor by getting it away from those morons!

Never trained to eat right? Just bring him to the vet and find out. The people you "received" him from are morons for saying such a thing. How do you train a dog to eat?

You are kind. When we rescue... we don't ever know really what the dog has been through. Dogs should not have to be trained to eat! Your vet will help clear all this up (tonsils, allergy... vet's job!). Best of luck!
