there must be some reason why otherwise intelligent people genuinely believe a carpenter guy, illiterate, post-neolithic world knowledge, is going to float down out of the sky and fix humanity's problems. Or save a place in a glorious eternal afterlife for folk who've killed other humans

instead of asking a general populace, perhaps you should go to the intelligent people who genuinely believe it, and ask them why they believe it.....

There is a quote I like. " If I believe and God does not come, I've lost nothing. If I don't believe and God comes, then I've lost everything." And why do you think that Christ was illiterate? Where did you get this information from? I have a question, for the benefit of the doubt let's say Christ was not the son of God just for arguments sake. Most people believe that when someone dies, they go to heaven. If that's the case, then God could still send him down to fix humanity's problems. The fact is, belief has nothing to do with being primitive. It has to do with our faith and hope. I choose to believe in God not because I am unintelligent, but because I hope. It's not such a bad thing and as the quote says, I loose nothing.

Dear friend you do not search for God like you search for a shirt. If you want to know God it is really simple. First ask God to help you to see and to know the truth of Him and his plan for salvation for you. Sounds so simple right. Get a new testiment and start reading the book of John, Then start reading the new testiment and then ask the Holy Spirit who is Jesus. Say this
Holy Spirit who is Jesus. It may take time, Keep seeking the answer he will one day speak when you have enoof of the Word of God in your heart. It takes both the word working in you and the word being spoken to bring about true salvation. But the Holy Spirit will indeed speak to you if you will seek God in truth and humility. When the Holy Spirit does speak to you. To recieve salvation confess your sins before God and ask for forgivensss and salvation. He is just to forgive and to save the humble of heart. This is the whole of the reason Jesus was sent. That God could once again have relationship with his creation.

God has purposely veiled your eyes to the truth and will not give you the gift of eternal life at this time. God has His reasons. Only the Father knows when and who will come to accept Him and who will not. Your time is not now, maybe later in the near future you will come to believe an accept Him. Only the Father knows.

The Bible tells us that God has clearly revealed Himself in nature (Romans 1:20) and in the hearts of people (Ecclesiastes 3:11). The problem is that the human race is sinful; we all reject this knowledge of God and rebel against Him (Romans 1:21-23). Apart from God's grace, God would give us over to the sinful desires of our hearts, allowing us to discover how useless and miserable life is apart from Him. This He does for those who reject Him (Romans 1:24-32).
the problem is that they have rejected what they have heard and what is readily seen in nature. Deuteronomy 4:29 proclaims, “But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” This verse teaches an important principle: everyone who truly seeks after God will find Him. If a person truly desires to know God, God will make Himself known.
The problem is, “there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God” (Romans 3:11). People reject the knowledge of God that is present in nature and in their own heart, and instead decide to worship a “god” of their own creation.

then dont think about that stuff as it may be irrelevant. try this thought...how do you explain creation or all the matter in the universe. where did it all come from. surely something of a higher power was making things happen for the universe to unfold the way it is. i believe it is illogical to be able to see creation and not believe in a creator. where did god come from... that is the question i ponder.

Believe me that wisdom of yours one day will not get you out of the real trouble you may be in.

As long as you glorify your limited so called wisdom the longer you will be blind to the truth of God's existence.

But hey if you want to continue thinking life as organized as it is it's smallest physical self is an act of chance.

Go ahead. Keep your delusions.

Perspective & comfort. It's really about community, family, the self and trying to give understanding to the things we don't or cannot understand---some find the 'idea' or 'concept' of meeting others that they hold dear and love 'again.' Its all about birth, life, & death. There is no one specific perspective...everyone's is different...no one thinks exactly the same. It's your own bag of bricks.

It's usually how they grew up. It's no different than them being born in India and being raised to believe there are many gods.
