I think you should talk to your doctor about your feelings and symptoms, not necessarily about the medication right away. He or she needs to know what the problem is first and then he or she may bring up the option of medication.

Antidepressants are powerful drugs. Usually, they are only given to people over 18. It is possible to get them. This is not a speech, just an opinion. Antidepressants mask the feeling and take away your symptoms. They don't actually cure depression. Some have some nasty side affects. You can become dependant on your pills to be happy. If you don't tackle the problem's source, you'll never find relief. Talk to a psychiatrist. They are most likely to put you on antidepressants. Psychologists can't. They don't have medical degrees. A doctor might. Hang in there ;)

don't worry, your not a freak, go ahead and ask the question,,,,,, is there anyone on antidepressants? I will ask for you OK? you will see, there are alot of people dealing with depression, and anxiety,,,,,,,, I am on ZOLOFT.........
Tell your doctor that you are not functioning well, for a long time it has been hard for you to just get out of bed, and you cry alot, and you need some antidepressants because you want your life back.

You are not a freak. Depression is a physiological illness that millions of us have. Just come out and tell your doctor how you've been feeling, and ask if he would consider putting you on antidepressants. It would be beneficial for you to get into Counseling too. They go hand in hand.

SO many people I know are on antidepressants - your doctor is used to this so please just be open with him/her and tell them you are feeling depressed and would like to try an antidepressant. Don't be embarrassed. I felt so embarrassed when I had to ask my doctor for a prescription when I was feeling a bit depressed after I had my second baby, so I know exactly how you feel.

I went to my doctor last month and told my doctor that I have been getting back to back stress headaches.. My doctor said the headaches could be caused by stress or depression. The doctor said I should try antidepressants because it may help.. Tell your doctor that someone told you this and see if the doctor agrees and will prescribe it for you...everyone now and then needs a lifeline.. even if its for a season

Talk to them openly. Tell them how you have been feeling and that you would like to try an antidepressant to see if it might help. More people are on them than you know and it really isn't a big deal!

You have no idea how many people are on anti depressants. Just ask him about it forthright. Be prepared to answer questions why you think you need them and what else have you tried.
