If I understand your question correctly, your mom said that when you were born she liked you as a friend, and this is upsetting to you, because you expected her to say that she loved you, not that she liked you.

There is this myth that when a baby is born, the parents -- especially the mother -- will automatically and instantly fall in love with the baby. The truth is that parents usually do NOT bond with their babies immediately. Parents may feel that they like the baby, or think that the baby is adorable. However, it takes time to develop a sense of LOVE for the baby.

I have 3 kids, and both my husband and I agree on this. I have discussed this with close friends, and they agree as well: it takes some time to bond with your baby and to feel real love for him/her.

Some mothers I have talked with felt very guilty about this, because there is this stereotype of parents falling immdiately in love with their babies. The fact is, the baby is a stanger until you spend more time together, cuddling, feeding, listening to your little one breathing...

Some parents even feel temporary resentment towards the baby for the suffering of childbirth. It's perfectly natural, and it passes.

In short, I think your mother was being very honest with you about how she felt when you were born. I'm sure she grew to love you as she got to know you :-)

I'm not sure I understand your question, but it sounds interesting because I too liked my son when he was born. I liked him very much and thought he was a really cool little guy. I think that was helpful in his growing up to be a really cool big guy.
