If only one was right then the others should be clearly wrong and not followed.
Fundamentally, the message in almost all religions is the same - an exhortation to lead a 'good' life; which many people do without the need for religion.
Most religions have the same basic purpose, only differing in how they see things. In that light, I'd say there is no "correct" one. People invent their own realities.

Religion has been used to manipulate others into submission and control and still used today for the same purpose.

There are many religions in the world, but almost all of them are in essence, the same. The differences are pretty cosmetic really.
In the course of development, most cultures come to observe some form of religion or belief in a maker or higher power.
It is a way to explain environmental events & spirituality seems to be a human effect that is kind of "built in". -You know, we all kind of want to believe in something. This offers stability and reason to man to carry on, not only in ancient times but present.
Unfortunately, religion is a major factor in the divisivness of man; religous beliefs have rooted wars since nearly the dawn of our exsistence.
However, some religions openly accept the right of others to believe in what they choose. Some do not, and feel that they must "convert" everyone to their own religion through submission.

There are many religions in the world because everyone has their own way of trying to reach God, therefore no one religion is right, all of them are right.

There probably will be more religions that arise, Islam certainly is not the last.

If this is an honest question, it is really thought-provoking and philosophical. And the answers to the question are as varied as the amount of religions on the earth. If you are searching for something to believe in, look to official documents and sites from the religions. And how do you know which one is correct? By how it makes you feel. You should feel good, and happy and want to make other people happy. The point of religion is to make people better and happy. When this is not happening, religion has lost its point.

There are so many Christians in the world because the Roman Empire adopted it as the state religion. The Roman Empire was one of conquer, obviously, and in 391 it (or Theodosis the First) made it illegal to worship any pagan god, by pain of death.

Couple this with Christianity's dogma of it being the One True Religion.

Islam, as I understand it, grew much more organically, through trade throughout Africa.

I don't believe there is one true religion, much like I don't believe there is one language, or hair color, or eye color, or nose shape or anything else.

Given that there are many personalities and many egos of the world, I am surprised there are not more religions in the world.

It depends on what do you expect from religion to be good.

If you want to just praise the glory and forget humanity, islam is best for you.
If you want to see non-believers as sinners and science is a lie, christianity is right.
If you want to see god in every one around you, and want answers for every question in your life, while having devotion to one god, with lot of freedom and humanity, it should be HInduism.
Next best I know is buddism, jainism.

Religion in all its' forms and expressions, are all a result of man's various interpretations of the word of God. Our different cultures and the beliefs within those cultures have developed the unique expression of God as having meaning for that particular culture. Though God is known by many names, we are worshipping one and the same, the deity of all creation, the Source, another name for God, in more simpler non-denominational speak. The unfortunate aspect of these various forms of religion due to man's interpretations, is that religious differences tend to separate people. Where we should be unified in our belief in a higher power, we nit pick one another because one belief does not match the other. It's religious lunacy! When is man going to learn tolerance and understand we are all speaking the same language but of a different tongue? Why fight someone else over religious ideas? He believes, you believe, where is the threat in having various expressions of the same subject? Do we all have the same personalities? Do we all speak the same dialects or languages? Do we all eat the same foods? Yet, we are all the same species, human! Why should religion be such a topic of controversy? Because I like chicken and you like steak, should we kill one another because of our difference in taste? Religion is a taste as well. It accompanies cultural identities as do choice of foods, manner of dress, customs, observed holidays, etc. We are all believing in the same phenomenon, our Creator, by whatever name we assign Him, Her or It! When will we all realize this and respect one another for the choices of our vast array of cultures which also influences our choices of what religions we choose to adhere to? No one religion is superior to another. They are all valid and are as they are, as a result of the culture from which they sprang! I can fully understand why atheists exist. It is because of this mass confusion and mass disrespect for our differences around religious issues, that drives people away from believing in anything, as all who do appear to be temporarily insane! When is this madness going to stop? When is man going to grow up? Catholics are not superior to Baptists, vice versa, and Buddhism is not superior to Christianity, or any other religious ideology to that of any other! Let us start seeing our similarites. We are the same species, are we not, so do we all look the same? Yet, we pick on each other for that too! What's wrong with us? When will we understand that our differences in any way, shape or form, are the united characteristics of the human being, the species homosapiens, which comes in all sizes, colors, sexual orientations, speaking many languages and expressing many cultures and religions? We are one species with one Source but we have invented many names and many interpretations of this one Source. Case closed!
