Lymph nodes filter lymph fluid as it runs through trapping bacteria and other pathogens, viruses, etc. Lymphocytes then go towards the lymph nodes to kill the bacteria trapped there. One place that lymph nodes are grouped is in the neck. Lymph nodes often swell because of the amounts of lymphocytes in the lymph nodes to kill the bacteria. Also, a injury such as a cut near the lymph nodes can cause swelling. It is very possible that your injury cauld have cause the lymph nodes in your neck to swell
