You want a mutt, er rather a "hybrid."
They're the best!

Your descriptions describes every dog :) toy poodles are a good breed or a puggle. All breeds have possible problems. Go ahead and get your pug. The website i looked at doesn't say anything about scratches but should help you better decide. Also talk to breeders about there lines and see how often it happens your self. Just because a breed has a health problem doesn't mean your dog will have it. As long as your careful with your pug you won't have a problem. My grandma has a pug named Bubbit and has never had a problem with her eyes. She has 6 dogs some as small as the pug and some as big as a germanshepherd mix. Look at the bottom website to find breeders be sure to look at the reviews and beware of puppies from MO because they have the most puppy mills check each breeder out thouroughly. (Not saying bad things about Montana breeders but there are a lot of puppy mills down there)

All breeds have their gentic tendencies for certain conditions but that doesn't mean they will ever have that problem themselves. Pugs have respritory problems just like any other flat faced dogbut not overly sickly dogs the are sturdy little things. So don't be afraid of the breed if that is what you want. Afew suggestions for you if you like small breeds that are Wonderful dogs and healthy and longer lived since they are smaller. Large dogs tend to have shorter life spans. FIRST.....boston terriers....healthy, fun, active, smart and great "people" dogs. Second....jack russell terriers......very energetic, love any activity you are doing, funny and great companions.Third would be a toy mix...they are usually a bit healthier due to cross breeding to remove some health problems and still make wonderful companions and family dogs. Good luck and try out some of the dog sites that have a breed selector based on your answers to a list of questions. That may help you a lot.

You have to understand that all breeds come with they're own set of potential health and sometimes even mental "problems". You really have to do your homework and weigh out the pros and cons and how it works into your life.
Do you have the financial stability to take on some possible health problems with some small dogs? Do you have the patience to deal with seperation anxioty that is common with small dogs?
All in all I think as with all breeds, big or small, owners need to be devoted to their animals as they are family members not "just pets".
There are several breeds of small dogs that are a bit hardy'er then others. Do your research!! Good luck and enjoy your new addition!
BTW... Pugs are GREAT! lol
I also like Mr. K's idea of getting a "Hybrid"! Kudos to Mr. K

You should go visit your local animal shelters until you see that Perfect dog. Every pure breed dog is going to have some kind of health problem related to their breed. But not all dogs of this breed get these health problems. I think you should look on http://dogbreedinfo.com/ to research all the different breeds, and it also lists their life expectancy and health problems. But ALL the breeds are going to have some health problems listed, this doesn't mean Your dog will have this problem. You can also go to http://www.petfinder.com/ to see a list of different dogs that are in animal shelters in your area. I hope this helps. Good luck finding your perfect dog! But I think a pug would be a great fit for you.

Are you really have the times of taking care of the dog? This is the priority thing you must consider 1st. Cuz dog not like human if no one care of them. Soon they will die. Dog can live several of year. In between they will be many thing happened. If you scare so much. Go buy a pedigree. But that cost a lot. If you think you can bear the responsibility. Just go for it.

Go to the pound and find a small dog w/ personality. Mixed breeds are best as they have less health problems, plus you'll be saving a puppy who might be put down otherwise.

I grew up with Shih Tzu's and they are completely adorable! They are smart and funny and loyal -- they will love you forever!!! They only thing is -- they need to be brushed daily or taken to the groomer for a trim about every 6 weeks.

Go to the Shelter. The dogs are so greatful to you for saving them. Plus Mixed breeds are not prone to as many disease as the inherrited ones of the purebreds.

dogs are like people in ways.. they will have diabetes or thyriod problems or cancers just as we do...i would suggest finding any of you favorite dogs breeds and find someone one local that has such a breed and that has akc registered pups or adults with a clean vet check and also check to see if the parents of your future dog had/has a healthy record.
