how cold does it have to get, or how cold does the wind chill have to be in order for schools to close usually?

in my area - it can get to -40 and we won't close schools. It has to be either icy out or too windy with lots of snow blowing around to close it down.

I can tell you that it is barely 1 degree and the schools are open here! (central ohio) I didn't send my daughter, she's only 7 and they expect her to walk in this mess. If the schools close I won't be notified and she will have to walk home alone, I don't think so. I got a paper from the school the other day listing reasons for closing, and temperature was one of them, apparently they don't want them to miss any school due to Monday being a holiday. :)

it doesn't depend on the temperature. It depends on the amount of snow, ice and driving conditions.
